New York Fashion Week Buyer’s Top 10..
Fashion buyers are the folks who pick the clothes that fill shop racks, predicting which trends will filter down to the high street from the catwalks. At the New York Fashion Week, Tom and Ruth Chapman, owners of hugely successful fashion boutique Matches were asked for their inside tips on trends, names to watch and top buys for next season. For each pick, the duo offer a rundown of why they think the look will be big in 2012.

One of the world’s largest fashion event came to an end over the weekend, with styles and trends for the up coming season on show. Having fallen on the week of the 9/11 anniversary, the New York Fashion organisers aimed at shedding positive light on the anniversary day and the fashion industry attempted to balance respect for the anniversary with a need to capitalise on the publicity brought by the biannual event. A full schedule of shows was held at the Lincoln Centre on Sunday, but the Council of Fashion Designers of America encouraged the fashion community to turn it into a day of service as well as a working day. “We thought it was appropriate to support this idea of turning it into a day of positive action,” said Steven Kolb, executive director of the CFDA. Designers from all over the world took over the runways with a showcase of clothing, with inspiration choices ranging from the direct- screen sirens of Hollywood- to the esoteric (European modernism in the desert), but altogether they act as a mood board for what to expect from the big names in fashion for 2012.
